DevMountain - First Half

Our second quarter at DevMountain started off like a bad roller-coaster ride. Thankfully, this last week was like the gentle clacking as the car returned to the platform. Where I had a hard-time following Angular, Node was –by and large– super-easy.

Whatever the struggle continue the climb it may be only one step to the summit.

Overview

Our focus this week was on Node and Express, and because of our awesome instructors Jake Trent and Ryan K Shaw, this week went pretty dang smoothly.

The stress of a full-time job, hellish commute, and many, consecutive weeks of DevMountain have finally started to wear me down. Which means I’m just not doing as much out of class work. I really wanted to do more pick-up studying on Angular last weekend and this weekend. I did some, but nowhere near as much as I wanted. Why do I mention this? I really didn’t need to do any pick-up studying for Node and Express, so that was a massive relief!

The only real stumbling blocks I ran into were:

  • Dealing with cross-origin resource sharing (CORS) in Node.
  • Pulling API data from a server into Angular through services.

I still don’t grok those topics, but I think I’m finally starting to see glimpses of understanding on pulling in API data. Hopefully a little bit more practice with CORS and Node will help me see the light on that front (we’ve only encountered it once so far).

Since I didn’t need to do any pick-up studying, I was able to do a little bit of work on one of my projects. Hopefully I’ll have a couple of posts about that up in the next day or so.

Like last week, most of the projects this week require a running server to view, so I’m linking directly to GitHub source code instead of a working demonstration of the page
